Q: Imessages Stopped Working Deployed Overseas

First of all thank you all for the help.

So I am a Soldier deployed between Iraq and Kuwait since September. I suspended my Verizon account for my IPhone 6 Plus since I was going to be out of the states for 9 months altogether. My main avenues for contacting family has been through Imessage and Facetime operating off Wifi on Airplane mode. These functions worked really well up until yesterday. I tried to restore my Iphone to no avail and even looked up various methods to try and fix it including logging out of Imessage, nothing has worked. Right now I am logged into Imessage and it is stuck "Waiting on Activation" with the Apple ID checked and Phone number greyed out loading under send and receive. I was reading the only way to reactivate it would be to send out a SMS message, in which I cannot do so due to services being shut off in the middle of a desert. I would appreciate all the insight on this problem. Maybe one of you ran into the same problem. I really hope there is a work around.
