Q: How do I change my apple ID to a new @icloud.com email address (I do not have an @icloud.com email account yet)?

I have a private email account that may go away as my hosting service thinks it is ok to raise the annual fee by 250% and I will not do business with them in the future. I wish to create an @icloud.com email address and use it for my existing Apple account's ID. I have a MAC and three iPhones and a few iPods and a developer account tied to my account. I do not want to mess up my devices, purchases or developer account..... and i am not sure how to create the @icloud email account to replace my existing Apple ID. Any insight would be great.

Thanks

Bob

You can't.  You can only update your Apple ID's primary E-Mail addresses to non Apple based e-mail addresses.

If you create an independent iCloud account it will be in and of itself an Apple ID, and cannot be used as the primary email address for your existing Apple ID.

Your best bet, is to create an E-Mail account with any of the free email services around such as Outlook.com or Gmail.com, or Yahoo, and use that as your new Primary Email Address for your Apple ID

Thanks. That is kinda what I was afraid of my apple ID is old and before the iClould existed or I would have set it up from the beginning. I have my private domains and emails as I do not accept the policies related to the "Free" email services. Privacy is non-existent with them and the more our society loses the privacy of it's citizens the more vulnerable we become. I will move to a different host but just was hoping to create the icloud email account for apple only and never have to change it as things evolve and email addressed come and go, I will probably move the existing email accounts to runbox if possible and maybe not have to change the one associated to my Apple ID....

    Thanks Again....Bob
