Q: iPod Nano not recognized by iTunes on Windows 10

I have a new ipod nano with windows 10. I cannot get itunes to recognize the nano. I already tried reinstalling iTunes as suggested by Apple and have confirmed that I have the latest version. All Windows 10 updates are current. Also, tried manually updating the driver from the program files on the PC based on instructions from another site and it still won't work. It connects at first but then disconnects and I get the message that it could not be found. Any other fixes for this issue?  This is getting frustrating!

If you put it in Disk Mode

Putting iPod into Disk Mode - Apple Support

and connect it with iTunes NOT running, does it stay connected (as seen by Windows)?  If you then run iTunes, and iTunes picks it up, it may prompt you to do a Restore.  Try doing the Restore.  After the Restore, see if there is any difference with the iPod being recognized by iTunes.

Kenichi - This still didn't work. Once I connect to pc, it opens iTunes automatically and I the same message about no iPod being detected. When putting the namo in disc mode, it doesn't actually say disc mode. It's just a white screen with a check mark and ok to disconnect. Is this right? Any other suggestions? I'm about at the end of my patience with this. It should be this hard to get them to connect.

The "white screen" with OK to disconnect is Disk ModeWhen connected, watch the iPod's screen.  Does it initially indicated a connection, and then change to OK to disconnect?  When it says OK to disconnect, is its battery charging?

It seems to be recognized initially, because iTunes does open when connected.  Some recent PCs with Windows 10 have an "energy saver" feature that cuts off full power to the USB port, it the connected storage device is not mounted by the system.  The iPod is a USB storage device.  If you see a feature like that in Control Panels, and can disable it, see if that makes a difference in the iPod staying connected, after it is initially recognized.

If you happen to have a USB hub (preferably USB 2.0) that has its own power supply (not powered by the USB port), as a test, connect the hub to the PC and connect the iPod to the hub.  Since the hub has its own power supply, power to the iPod is maintained.

Since this iPod is new, you have 90 days of tech support by phone.  See

    http://www.apple.com/contact/

where it says "Mac, iPhone, iPod, iPad, Apple TV, and Apple display customers within 90 days of ownership are eligible for complimentary telephone technical support."  If it's still not working, use the official Apple tech support.

If you have an Apple Store nearby, you can also make a reservation at the store's Genius Bar (tech support staff) and take it there.  If your PC is a laptop, you should take it along.  You can make a reservation at the store's web page
