Q: Laptop random restarts or black screen and 3 beeps

Hello Apple community,

I am currently having issues with my Mac and am turning to the community for help. So I have a MacBook Pro 2012 A1278. Within the past few months, my macbook would randomly restart itself, turn itself off, or have black screen with 3 consecutive beeps. I have done my research on the issue, took my laptop for help at the Genius Bar and still nothing has changed. I have reset the PRAM, SMC, completely erased my laptop and reinstalled OS, and even tried changing out the RAM. I would assume that the likeihood of having two pairs of RAM corrupt is improbable. I have done practically everything and don't know what is wrong. Can anyone assist me? Any type of help would be much appreciated!

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2012), iOS 9.2.1

    • 3 successive tones, a 5 second pause (repeating): This indicates RAM does not pass a data integrity check.

See the following help file: About Mac computer startup tones - Apple Support

What did they tell you when you took our computer to the Genius Bar?

What type of RAM did you use?

Macs are very fussy about what kind of RAM you are using.

You can install either OWC OWC memory or crucial Crusial Mac memory memory.

I am surprised that the technicians at the genius bar were not able to resolve the issue.

How many sets of RAM do you have?  If you replaced the original RAM, are the specifications of the new RAM: 204-pin PC3-12800 (1600 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM?

First try this;  clean the contacts and install one module only in one slot and then in the other slot.  Repeat this with the other module.  You are testing to see if one module or one slot is faulty. (make certain that you seat the modules properly)

    Post back the results.

    Ciao.
