Replacement screens and costs

HI

just today I had to get my husbands screen on his iPhone 6 replaced. We don't live anywhere near an Apple Store so took it back to the place we purchased the phone from as they also do repairs. It cost $300 - when I queried the price I was told that if we had post the phone to Apple we would not have received the same phone back as they don't actually fix screens they just send you a refurbished phone. Is this correct? I was also told replacement parts are expensive hence the price tag - yet when I look on the apple site it says $188.95 to fix a 6 that doesn't have apple care. Are we being robbed or does this sound about right if fixed by someone other than apple? It was $40 for the work fee and $260 for the actual screen.... But since "fixing" it they have now stuffed his speaker up and have to replace that 😐

You're correct, if nothing else has to be fixed, the price for a screen replacement done by Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider would be this:

Screen repair service pricing

Repair and replacement costs depend on your iPhone model and your AppleCare product coverage. Apple will run a diagnostic test to determine whether your iPhone has experienced additional damage. If it has, or if it needs other repairs, you may need to pay an out-of-warranty service fee. Accidental damage isn't covered under the Apple One Year Limited Warranty.

Model Screen repair cost
iPhone 6 $109
iPhone 6s, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5 $129
iPhone 6s Plus $149

Plus a $6.95 shipping fee, if required. Fees are in USD and exclude local tax. Pricing is for service through Apple. The final service fee we charge will be determined during testing. Pricing and terms vary for service through an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

Apple will only replace the whole unit if the damage goes beyond that and/or this damage can't be fixed, for example water damage, phone got bent, etc.

Out-of-warranty repair service

If your repair isn’t covered by Apple’s One Year Limited Warranty, AppleCare+, or AppleCare Protection Plan, your iPhone might be eligible for out-of-warranty service. For example, liquid damage isn’t covered by warranty but might be eligible for out-of-warranty service. Some damage isn’t eligible at all, for example if your device has been broken into multiple pieces. See Apple’s Repair Terms and Conditions for complete details.

OH ok. I found a different price list with Australian pricing so I just thought the $300 to replace a cracked screen seemed slightly excessive and I couldn't understand why i was being told apple wouldn't fix the screen they would just send me a refurbished phone. Nothing else was wrong with the phone until the person fixing the phone caused another problem.....
