Imac freezes using safari, using yosemite

Lately when using Safari it has been freezing my Imac. I have to completely turn the Imac off than back on to use. Has any one else experienced this and have a cure?

I have a mid 2007 with Yosemite.

Hi, Steve,

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.

I understand that Safari will become unresponsive causing your iMac to be unusable. I would start with going through the troubleshooting steps in the articles below.

Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac

If Safari is slow, stops responding, quits unexpectedly, or has other issues

If the issue persist, try going through the section labeled Check for adware on your Mac in the article below.

Stop pop-up ads and adware in Safari

Cheers

I also have a mid 2007 iMac with 2.4 Intel core 2 duo processor and ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 graphics card. My problem sounds similar. It is intermittent and doesn't seem to happen with any consistent software. Happens with Safari running solo and with iTunes running at the same time. The cursor will move around the screen but does not respond to any clicks of the mouse or any of the keyboard shortcuts. I can't force quit the applications using the keyboard. The only way to solve the issue is to use the power button to shut it down. I've run the hardware test with no problems noted. I'm running El Capitan 10.11.4. I spoke with Apple support and they had me flash the memory. It is still happening.

Any help is appreciated.
