IPhone 6 plus will not charge - plug recognized

My battery went dead yesterday, I plugged it in to the same cable I have every night and 8 hours later it was not charged. I have reset (home and lock button at the same time). The device shows the icon and then in about 1 minute vibrates twice and goes off. Then about a minute later the icon appears again and it repeats the same steps.
