Q: iMessage won't display names, only numbers

I am at a loss. For the past two days, I have tried desperately to upload my contacts from my iPhone to my Macbook Pro through iCloud. When I was finally successful, the contacts appeared on my laptop, but iMessage only displays phone numbers rather than names. At first, I assumed it was because the number in iMessage did not correspond to the contact number (for example, +1 (248) 555-1000 would be displayed in iMessage, while (248) 555-1000 would be the saved phone number). However, when I edited the contact phone number--adding the country code on both my laptop and in my phone as an extra measure--nothing changed. The messages I receive in iMessage still correspond to phone numbers, not names. There are no extraneous "number-only" contacts at the bottom of my Address Book and all of my contacts are synced via iCloud. My iOS is up-to-date and my laptop is running OS X Yosemite.

    Hi,

On the Mac in Contacts > Preferences > Accounts how many accounts does it say you have ?

How many of those are Active ?

Reduce it to just the iCloud one if there are more.

    Restart the Mac.

    Report back at this stage.
