MacBook Pro (OS X 10.11.3) was working heading into last weekend, coming out of it, it can not boot properly. Can't think of a reason why this would suddenly be the case. Shut down normally & was working fine. Since restarting it would only load up to a point in the startup & go no further.
Any suggestions/solutions?

This article shows the screens you see on start up. At the bottom it outlines the screens you will see if the computer is having issues at certain points with start up. Usually though we want to try to start up in safe mode (hold shift on start up) to see if that resolves the issue (would mean that its a 3rd party software issue). Or we can try to do a PRAM reset

This will help your computer find the start up disk.
Or you can try manually selecting the start up disk (hold shift on start up and then select the system partition when it comes up)
seeing that it's at the FileVault level since it asks to log in immediately after starting up. Able to put in the password fine and the progress bar loads up (almost) normal.
Loads up to say 3/4 way and the background dims a little usually means it's about ready to load into the desktop but then nothing happens. Tried the PRAM method earlier, no change. Just finished a reinstall of OS X, still no change.
also tried safe mode earlier, barely an option. Shows the Apple logo but then goes back to the user log in display.
