does anyone use GIMP on ElCapitan?

I use a drawing program called Gimp for making video games. It worked on yosemite, but I can't get it to work since I updated to El Capitan. I believe I have the downloaded the most recent version, at 2.8.16, but it doesn't mention El Capitan specifically. Does anyone have it working?

Thanks for any info 🙂

I don't use GIMP extensively, but 2.8.14 fires up on El Capitan

When you first drag/drop GIMP 2.8.16 into your Applications folder, right-click on it and choose open. It will get verified, and then inform you it is from an unregistered developer. Go ahead and click open. From this point on it will launch with a single-click from Launchpad.

The first launch of GIMP, and particularly this 2.8.16 release of GIMP is not only exceptionally slow, it does not present a progress window to let you know that it is doing anything. Eventually it launches. I no longer use GIMP, and I have transitioned to the substantially better implemented, and modern Affinity Designer, which is in the OS X App Store, and on the Affinity site, is offered for 30-day trial.

As VikingOSX said, 2.8.16 is very slow to launch the first time on El Capitan, but it does work.

When I saw your post, I tried launching my older 2.8 version and it crashed. I downloaded 2.8.16, and Control-Clicked on it, selected Open, Clicked on the dialog box to allow it open, and then waited a few minutes while it found all the resources it needed. But it did open after a few minutes. The 2nd time it came up very quickly.
