Q: new scanner issue

i've been successfully using my hp photosmart wireless printer/scanner for a long time. in fact, just a few hours ago. but now i'm getting the error message "scanner reported an error. access to scanner denied".

i can see on the printer's screen that it's trying to scan, however.

i've re-booted, done a reopen in safe mode, deleted the printer altogether and re-added it, turned off and on the internet with an hour in between...restarted several times...no luck.

any more ideas?

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

Try doing a permissions repair on the Mac, using, "Finder" "Utilities" "Disc Utility" .

thank you - i got into disc utility and clicked on the 'first aid' tab which checked the hard drive for errors. everything seems ok.

didn't find anything specifically referring to 'permissions repair' however. can you give me more information on this, please?

i found this info on that page... "Beginning with OS X El Capitan, system file permissions are automatically protected. It's no longer necessary to verify or repair permissions with Disk Utility."

that's why i couldn't find it...

i'm going to try again to scan and see if it wil work now
