Verification problem with AOL account

I cannot access my aol email account. I have changed the password and it still is not working. I keep receiving the message that my account cannot be verified. I read in the community posts that they have had success by deleting and reinstalling AOL. If I do this and reinstall do I lose all of my email/files? All help is appreciated. Kind regards.

Hi j.b.frommd,

I understand you keep getting a message that your AOL email account can't be verified so you can't use that account. Resetting the password didn't help.

First please see this article,

If you can’t send or receive email on your Mac - Apple Support

You may want to contact AOL before deleting and recreating your email account.

https://help.aol.com/contact

If your account is setup as IMAP then your email is stored on their servers. If setup as POP3 then the email is local to your computer. Either way, you should backup before deleting any email account.

Mail (El Capitan): Create or delete mailboxes

WARNING: Deleting a mailbox permanently deletes the mailbox and its contents, and can’t be undone. If you use Time Machine to back up files on your Mac, you can use it to recover previous versions of a deleted mailbox.

Take care.
