If you see error 1415, 1417, 1418, 1428, 1429,
1430, 1436, or 1439 when restoring or updating an
iPod in iTunes
When you restore or update your iPod in iTunes, you may see an alert that says "An unknown error has occurred" followed by the number 1415, 1417, 1418, 1428, 1429, 1430, 1436, or 1439.
If you're using an iOS device, such as an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, follow these steps to resolve your issue.
You can troubleshoot the error with the tips below. Begin with the first one, then try to restore or update your iPod. Try each one until you no longer see the error and your iPod is successfully restored or updated:
- Get the latest version of iTunes.
- Disconnect and reconnect your iPod to iTunes.
- Restart your computer.
- Connect your iPod to a different USB port (a USB 2.0 port if possible).
- Disconnect any third-party USB devices from your computer (you don't need to remove your keyboard or mouse).
- Use a different user account on your computer, or create a new test user account with admin rights and iTunes.
- Turn Disk Use on or off on your iPod.
- Update or reinstall your Windows USB drivers.
- If you use third-party security software, you might need to update, disable, or uninstall your security software temporarily.
