Q: Siri stopped working - at least for most functions...

Hi!

A couple of days ago I had a strange problem with my speakers on my iPhone 6 running iOS 9.2.1. It suddenly got 'stuck' thinking that headphones were plugged in. I tried a range of suggestions found on the Apple Support Community and eventually got everything working again after having to reset my phone and then restoring from a previous backup with iTunes.

However, ever since then, Siri no longer works for most applications

It doesn't work to:

make telephone calls from my contact list

make text messages from my contact list

unable to use the timer function

It does work to:

find out the time

find out the temperature

find weather forecast

navigate to specific websites and do searches

I have tried (as suggested on other posts with Siri problems) switching off Siri, then switching off my phone, restarting my phone and switching Siri back on.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me to get Siri working again? I didn't realise how much I have been using the function until I can't anymore.

iPhone 6, iOS 9.2.1, null

    Hey Ju50es,

I understand that you are having issues with Siri performing some tasks. Let's see if we can get that sorted out.

Knowing what you have done so far, I know the troubleshooting offered will be a repeat of some of the things you have done already. Take a look at the information outlined below to get you sorted out. If at the end of the day, it is still not working, then you will want to contact Apple Support for further assistance.

Use Siri on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

    Get help with Siri

    • If "Hey Siri" isn't working, make sure that "Hey Siri" is turned on under Settings > General > Siri.
    • Siri might say, "Sorry, I'm having trouble connecting to the network," or "Try again in a little while." This is probably a network issue. Check your Internet connection and try again later.
    • If Siri isn't available or responding to questions, see the next section.

If Siri isn't available, or doesn't understand or respond to questions

After each step, see if you still need help:

    1. Make sure that your iOS device has an Internet connection through Wi-Fi or cellular data.
    2. On your iOS device, make sure that Siri is turned on under Settings > General > Siri.
    3. Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
    4. On your iOS device, go to Settings > General > Siri and turn off Siri. Then turn it on again.
    5. Make sure that the microphones on your device aren't blocked. For example, if your device has a protective case, remove it.
    6. If you're using an iOS device, try to use Siri with a headset. If Siri works, get more help with the microphones on your device.
    7. Contact Apple Support.
