spotlight indexing stalled

Hello everyone,

Spotlight indexing has stalled on my Mac running El Capitain. The indexing progress bar has been sitting at about one-third for four days now. Should I erase the index and start again, or is there something else I should do?

Hello Alex,

Thank you for replying. Yes, I did follow the standard steps that you suggested for Spotlight to re-index. It appears to have done so in that I do get the expected results when I search for files or in Notes or in Mail. What still leaves some doubt in my mind, however, is that after three days the index progress bar is at about three-eighths in the Spotlight search window. It may be that this is just a quirk of El Capitan, but I think I will look up the terminal command that will show indexing status.

Thanks again,

Gregory
