Thank you.  To others that emailed me asking for clarification:  The Amazon app that provides access to movies, etc. like netflix.

Big disappointment. I have lost access to several series and things I was watching with that app.

Almost wish I'd bought a new Roku.

People have reported that, when they contacted Amazon to find out if/when Amazon will be releasing an app for the ATV, the response has been "soon". Some of those reports date back to when the ATV 4 was released so, don't hold your breath.

You should be able to use Airplay from an iOS device that has the Amazon Video app installed to the ATV 4.

You might want to look at iTunes, it has a far larger selection than Amazon. I couldn't be sure of course but t'd be surprised if the series you wanted to watch weren't also on iTunes.

In the U.S., at least, if you have Amazon Prime, you get a bunch of stuff that you can stream for free as part of the service. Not first run but some of it is certainly to my taste.

It's not free though Meg, you have to pay for Amazon Prime.

I appreciate many consider it free because they are getting a fixed annual shipping fee (on some but not all purchases) when they buy from Amazon and see the content streaming service as a 'for nothing'. But, check out the prices of what you are buying, I have found it's more often than not cheaper elsewhere, even considering any delivery charges. In many cases the price difference is not insignificant either, my computer inks for example are almost 15% dearer through Amazon and being genuine Canon inks that's a lot over a year when you have a business.

I spend a very similar amount over the internet as I did 3 years ago, then most of that went to Amazon because I didn't know any different, today less than 5% goes through Amazon because I check out the prices first now. If I bought from Amazon and had Amazon prime, the more I bought from them the dearer my free stuff would be. I'm left with more money in my pocket getting my content from iTunes. I could purchase around 15 TV series from iTunes with what I save on inks alone.

Check out the prices next time you go to buy something. Check out price comparison sites.

That's why I said "as part of the service". I meant, no additional cost in addition to all the other things one gets with Prime.

In addition to videos, one gets music and access to one eBook to "borrow" a month. I only purchase things from Amazon that have free shipping. For me, the convenience of the fast shipping, one stop shopping,  not having to give my credit card out to more vendors and, on average, for the things I buy, equivalent pricing, it works for me.

Fortunately, I don't have any need to buy printer ink charges. That has always felt to me like one of the biggest scams!

We have Amazon Prime. My wife uses Amazon considerably and the yearly cost of the service pretty much pays for itself in shipping savings (no ink cartridges, however. Costco keeps me covered on that). The video service is a nice "bonus" and I do use it.

I bought a Roku stick for the one TV in the house that doesn't have an AppleTV connected. It handles Amazon Video and Netflix quick well. The upstairs den's blu ray has this as well (although the apps on it leave a little to be desired in terms of timely updates).

However, it would be nice to have Amazon Video on AppleTV and not have to rely on AirPlay

Are you sure, I'm not disputing your statement but I do wonder if you have you priced this stuff up elsewhere before buying from Amazon. When something costs £ 50.00 plus £ 3.35 shipping, Amazon Prime's £ 58.00 with free shipping (actually I mean  £ 8.00 per month) isn't exactly a bargain. I'm not saying everything will be like this, I'm only suggesting you might try costing your purchases elsewhere before hitting the buy button on Amazon.

Printer inks was just an example, Amazon's inflated prices aren't limited to printer inks. I've just checked now, the last thing I found cheaper at Amazon was January 4 and that was a Bob Hope DVD that was only available in the US, so it wasn't something I had free choice over. I have also just checked the CC I use for online purchases and see I've made 47 purchases online since January 1.

I understand that some people might do that. For me, I'd rather pay $8/month than go through the annoyance of price checking, setting up accounts or entering information for everything I want to buy. For me, the lowest cost of goods is not always the determining factor.

On the occasions I've checked, the things I buy end up being, roughly (some a little higher, some a little lower) on Amazon. When I wanted to buy a new vacuum and had a 20% off coupon for another store, sure, I used that (the items cost the same at both the store and Amazon), even though it meant driving somewhere. But that was a $300 item.  I suspect it really depends on what you buy and how often.

Yes, we are sure. My wife is a long time Amazon user (are something of an expert bargain hunter). She researched the pricing considerably  comparing her account (pre Prime) and my son's on Prime. In the US, at least with some Amazon vendors and products, the prime cost is actually less than the regular (not always). Just in a set of products she regularly orders (several times a year), the membership more than pays for itself. And while pricing on amazon can sometimes be beat elsewhere, much of the time it can't. At least that is our experience.
