Do I need to run photo library updater?

Need to update OS, iPhoto, & iTunes. Have been told to do OS first, others afterwards if needed. Local store associate said must use photo library updater prior to upgrade; Apple support says not necessary. I am very interested in retaining present sort order in the Albums in IPhoto when move to Photos. What is suggested here? Present system: iMac 10,1; OS 10.8.5; 8 MB; iPhoto 9.4.3; iTunes 11.0.5.

iPhone 6s Plus, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5), Ipodtouch; Ipad I 3G; previous IIGS

With iPhoto 9.4.3 you do not need the iPhoto library upgrader - it is only needed for version 7 (iPHoto '08) and earlier libraries

This is well documented by Apple

Using the iPhoto Library Upgrader tool - Apple Support

The iPhoto Library Upgrader prepares libraries from iPhoto '08 (v7.x) or earlier so that you can use them with the current version of iPhoto or Photos for OS X. If your library was created by iPhoto '09 (v8.x) or later, you don't need to use this tool.

It is unfortunately that Apple has so many uninformed employees giving out bad information and acting like they were Geniuses
