Pandora *sometimes* killing battery and causing phone to get hot

I saw several quite old threads about this but nothing current, and I didn't find any solutions. Anyone know a solution for this?

I have an iPhone 6S Plus, running iOS 9.2.1. Yesterday I listened to Pandora (using Wifi with good signal strength) for about 8 hours, using Bluetooth (JBLwireless bluetooth speaker). Started at 100% battery, when I left work battery was about 55%.

Today, same thing but within 3 hours I was down to 34% battery and phone was hot to the touch. Actual use of phone during this time was negligible (same as yesterday).

Same thing happened to me on Monday, within a couple of hours I was down to 28% battery life and phone was hot to the touch. I restarted the phone and it didn't listen to Pandora the rest of the day. As I said, yesterday was fine. Today we're back to draining and heating.

If the solution is to stop using Pandora, please tell me what other *free* app/service will give me similar results.

To view your usage, go to Settings > Battery. If it lists Pandora as the highest percentage of your battery life, then that's the problem. You can uninstall it if you like, but I'm not going to recommend another app to use, because you'll have the same results with any other music app in that situation. You're running an app for eight hours straight with Wi-Fi and connected to Bluetooth. That's putting a lot of strain on the phone, and having 55% at the end of the day is actually pretty good. 28% is more what I would expect. A better solution would be to bring a charger to work and leaving it plugged in while you're using Pandora. If you have concerns about the battery, bring it in to an Apple Store or Apple authorized service location.

I have the same problem. I'm on wi-fi and using my bluetooth headset. For me, it happens almost on a daily basis, mostly in the afternoon. I tried a couple of tricks, such as disallowing Pandora to use cellular data but no go. I also turned off wi-fi assist and again, didn't solve it. When it happens, I just kill the Pandora app and restart, and battery usage will slow way down.

Thanks for the response, and I did confirm that it is Pandora that is eating up the battery life.

It's interesting that I can go for days/weeks without it eating up the battery before noon, but then every once in a while like Monday and today it'll chow through the battery in no time. All last week I ran Pandora using the same Wifi and bluetooth connection, all day each day without going below 50% battery by the end of the work day (like yesterday).
