Q: How can I use iCloud to backup entire folders?

I see that I can drag and drop files into iCloud.  I need a way to copy entire folders as a backup device.

I don't need to see them on multiple devices necessarily, but want to make sure they are backed up just in case of Mac failure

What is the best way to do this?

Use an external hard drive and a backup application like Time Machine that comes with every Mac.  All of the iCloud options are for syncing files between devices using the same Apple and iCloud ID.  They are not designed for off Mac storage.

I each of the iCloud features any changes made on one device are reflected on all devices logged in to the same ID.
