Q: The Apple Software Update server could not be found. Check your Internet settings and try again.

2.1.4 works fine

I had the same problem with Apple Software Update 2.2. I got the error message: "The Apple Software Update server could not be found. Check your Internet settings and try again.".

I went to the Control panel -> Network and Internet -> Internet Options.

In the "Advanced" tab I scrolled down to "Security" and unchecked "Do not save encrypted pages to disk".

Now Apple Software Update 2.2 is working without problems.

THANK YOU! I am not at home, but I experimented with my work PC, which did work with ASU, so I turned that setting on. Sure enough, it caused the problem. Turned it back off, and it works properly. Can't wait to try it at home.

Not sure if this is a work around or the final solution but it does remove the error message.

Someone else needs to post it you actually can get something to update as none of my systems have a pending update

There is also a  registry solution using BypassSSLNoCacheCheck

Seems like the default for this flag has changed overtime so depending on how you installed or upgraded over time it may be different for some  users.
