Q: The Apple Software Update server could not be found. Check your Internet settings and try again.
Today I ran Apple Software Update, which offered an update to v2.1.4, and installed it. Next, it offered an update to v2.2, which I also installed. Checking for any further updates, I received this error message: "The Apple Software Update server could not be found. Check your Internet settings and try again."
My laptop runs Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
I have read other threads about this problem, and have tried checking for Windows updates and restarting my PC. I had iTunes installed, but uninstalled it months ago. If I had iTunes installed, I would try the method here: Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows 7 and later - Apple Support .
I don't want Windows 10, and going by other threads, upgrading to it wouldn't necessarily fix this problem.

I had the same problem with Apple Software Update 2.2. I got the error message: "The Apple Software Update server could not be found. Check your Internet settings and try again.".
I went to the Control panel -> Network and Internet -> Internet Options.
In the "Advanced" tab I scrolled down to "Security" and unchecked "Do not save encrypted pages to disk".
Now Apple Software Update 2.2 is working without problems.
