Q: Extensions for Photos for Mac; can Photos convert RAW?
Downloaded the "Creative Kit 2016" from the macphun website quite recently so have still not done much with the CK apps. I like the neat user interface of Snapheal and Intensify and had a go at using these with both Aperture and Photos: the process is smoother with Photos; with Aperture, retouching a given photo tends to take longer as commuting from one software to the other and back feels somewhat “hectic” (one closing and the other opening, with the desktop screen visible in between…).
So I plan to dedicate a bit of time to Photos now. The question is: can it convert RAW?

Photos can develop some DNG files. I can open the DNG files created with Adobe DNG Converter in Photos. I don't know about Lightroom DNGs.
which benefit might there be in using DxO Optics Pro?
You can use it right from Photos as an extension. It will give your more control over the RAW development.
You can manually adjust the lens correction, fix the chromatic aberration, and you can control the noise removal, the lighting, white balance during the RAW development.
