File extensions won't stop showing

I have unchecked "show all filename extensions" on Finder's advanced preferences window but all my files still show extensions like jpeg and mp4. How can I make them go away?

MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2015), OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

I found a partial solution. While it does not solve the underlying problem of the files being created with extensions showing, the below will remove extensions from existing files in large batches.

1. Go to All My Files in Finder.

2. Search for ".pdf" (or another extension you wish to remove).

3. Select all files.

4. Right click and select Rename...items.

5. Enter ".pdf" in the Find box.

6. Click rename without entering anything in the Replace with box.

7. Repeat for other extensions.
