Transfer your AppleCare plan - Apple Support
As long as its correctly identified on Apple's support site it will be covered regardless of who takes it in for service.

However unless it was bought new sometime between January and now, there's no way its warranty is valid into 2017.
Warranty is valid for 1 year after initial purchase. Apple Care adds an additional year to that.

Apple Care + (which is different to Apple Care, and different to the standard 1 year warranty) is tied to the device,so if it appears correctly at the support site, then you are fine. The Apple Care + plan is active for the device, and you do not need to do anything.
