Q: siri will not open apps

I have an iphone 6 s running IOS 9.2.1.  Siri will not open apps or call contacts when a request is made.

I have rebooted multiple times, including holding the home and power button.  Is there a fix to this issue?  I have not done a complete restore at this time.

Siri needs Internet connection using Wi-Fi or cellular data.

Did you try switching Siri Off then back On?

    Get help with Siri

    • If "Hey Siri" isn't working, make sure that "Hey Siri" is turned on under Settings > General > Siri.
    • Siri might say, "Sorry, I'm having trouble connecting to the network," or "Try again in a little while." This is probably a network issue. Check your Internet connection and try again later.
    • If Siri isn't available or responding to questions, see the next section.

If Siri isn't available, or doesn't understand or respond to questions

After each step, see if you still need help:

    1. Make sure that your iOS device has an Internet connection through Wi-Fi or cellular data.
    2. On your iOS device, make sure that Siri is turned on under Settings > General > Siri.
    3. Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
    4. On your iOS device, go to Settings > General > Siri and turn off Siri. Then turn it on again.
    5. Make sure that the microphones on your device aren't blocked. For example, if your device has a protective case, remove it.
    6. If you're using an iOS device, try to use Siri with a headset. If Siri works, get more help with the microphones on your device.
    7. Contact Apple Support.

This information is not helpful in my case.  I have internet connection, WiFi, cell phone connection and every other kind of connection.  If I ask Siri to make a call I get"Uh oh, there's a problem.  Can you try again?"  When I ask Siri to open an app such as contacts, calendar, map or any other app, I receive a reply" I don't see an app called..., you can try searching the App store.

I am ready to take this phone back to apple under my current warranty unless you can suggest a fix for this frustration problem.  by the way, I have been able to restart and have Siri function as it should but only for a brief time.  After that, it fails to complete the action requested.

Any suggestions would be appreciated for this obvious bug.  I have seen this issue on multiple discussion groups and hope this will be documented.

BTW, you are not speaking with Apple, this is a user to user technical forum.

If it's a bug then why am I not getting it?

Just tested using Siri to open my Calendar and my Contacts and it works.

    Maybe you should try

    Restore from backup

    Restore as new

Thanks ckuan - I realized you were not Apple after I had sent my last reply and appreciate your efforts to give steps to fix.

I think at this point the restore option is what I will pursue.

    Thanks

I had the same problem. SIRI would no longer open apps and could not call my contacts. I turned Siri off and then turn Siri back on and the problem was fixed.
