Q: non-visual notification
Hi.
Does anyone know if it is possible to have a vibration notification set for a specific time that does not appear on the watch face? Perhaps a third party app? I am a tutor and I would like to know when my hour lesson has finished without the students knowing.
Cheers

To be absolutely certain that the alert will not be shown on your watch face (even if you raise your wrist upon receiving it), Silent Mode can also be coupled with VoiceOver, which can turn the screen off.
Once your watch has been prepared (a one-time process) for using this solution, only one extra step would be required at the start and end of each lesson. You may instead prefer to enable VoiceOver part way through your lesson, as you will not otherwise be able to quickly check the time on your watch.
Important: to avoid certain potential issues when using VoiceOver with Screen Curtain, if it has not yet been set up in this way, check that your watch is configured as follows:
- On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > General > Wrist Detection - turn on.
- My Watch > Passcode > Turn Passcode on (choose either a Simple 4-digit passcode or a longer one).
- Still within the Passcode settings screen, also enable Unlock with iPhone.
After putting it on your wrist, your watch will then unlock after whatever you do first: either unlocking your watch manually (by entering the passcode) or unlocking your iPhone. It will then remain unlocked (including when the screen is asleep) until you remove it from your wrist. When you remove your watch, it will lock automatically.
To configure your watch for this solution:
- On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > General > Accessibility > VoiceOver:
- Turn on Screen Curtain (but do not yet turn on VoiceOver);
- Move the VoiceOver volume slider to the far left.
- Return to the previous screen (by tapping Accessibility at the upper-left) > tap on Accessibility Shortcut (at the bottom) > tap on VoiceOver (so that a check mark is shown against it).
In addition to the steps in my previous reply (setting up a Reminder or Calendar event and turning on Silent Mode), at either the start of your lesson or during it:
- Press the Digital Crown three times in quick succession; this will enable VoiceOver and Screen Curtain.
- For the remainder of the lesson, nothing will be shown on the screen (even if you raise your wrist or tap on your watch).
- Your reminder will issue a haptic alert notification when due.
After your lesson, press the Digital Crown again three times to turn off VoiceOver and Screen Curtain (and also turn off Silent Mode).
