Q: Why are my emails not syncing in time as I receive on hotmail.com?

Hi,

Why does my hotmail account not receive emails as they are sent to me? If I open hotmail.com I can see in immediately but if I open the mail app on my iPhone or Mac it only shows after 24 hours approx. How can I solve this issue? Its been happening for months now.

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)

    Hi craigsequeira,

You mention speficically that it's the hotmail email that is delayed getting to you while you can see them easily on the web.  Does this mean that other email accounts (if you have them) are not delayed?  24 hours is a long delay.

From If you can’t send or receive email on your Mac - Apple Support

If email doesn't arrive as soon as you expect

Incoming or outgoing email might take longer to arrive than you expect, or it might arrive on one device before arriving on another device.
Email delivery is scheduled by your email provider, and delivery time could also be affected by your Internet provider. If you often experience significant email delays, contact your email provider or Internet provider. If the delays occur only when communicating with a particular person, that person may need to contact their email provider or Internet provider.

Since this happens both on your iPhone and Mac it doesn't sound like a setting issue with either.

    Best regards.

This is an odd one, considering that it happens on both your iPhone and your Mac but not on Hotmail.com. All I can suggest is to try resetting your Mail account on your phone to see if it helps there, if so then doing the same on your Mac.

First close your Mail App completely from the multitasking window by double clicking the Home button and swiping up the Mail preview pane up until it disappears from the screen. You may have to look for the Mail pane by scrawling to the left. Then go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > locate your email provider and click on the account. On the next page Delete Account. Then do a forced restart. Hold down the Home and Wake/Sleep buttons at the same time for about 15-20 seconds until the Apple logo appears. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it comes up. You will not lose anything. Then go back to Settings > Mail… and add the account again.
