Q: add email address verification email not received

My apple ID email is a company address that is no longer active. It is also used as an email account destination for iMessages. I am attempting to add my personal address under iMessages>Preferences>accounts

You can be reached for messages at: Add email

I type in my person email address, mpartyka@gmail.com and it indicates its sent a verification email. That address then is added but greyed out until confirmed. I have done this several times (using the same email address) from my iMac as well as my iPhone, each time it asks if i want to resend the verification email, to which i affirm. So in total i might have done this 6 or 7 times and my Gmail account just never gets the email. I've checked SPAM but there is nothing there either.

The idea is to get my personal address added so i can then delete the inactive email address.

Any suggestions as to how to resolve this?

Thanks

Mike

    Might be a corrupt .plist.

Do a backup, preferably 2 backups on 2 separate drives.

    Quit the application.

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.iChat.plist.  Move the .plist to your desktop.

Restart the computer, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.

If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

If that doesn’t work, repeat the above but delete the com.apple.imagent.plist

    Hi,

If it was a .plist it would be the com.apple.ids.service.com.apple.madrid.plist one as this holds the registered ID and Alternatives like the iPhone Number and any additional email addresses.

This shows both Aliases and Vetted Aliases as two separate lists. (as viewed in Xcode)

This .plist com.apple.ids.service.com.apple.ess.plist is also involved as is com.apple.ids.service.com.apple.private.ac.plist

(I have an @me.com address that keeps appearing on the iPhone and iPad and then on the Mac which I edit out of all three under the Vetted Aliases bit)

    @mpartyka,

Are you looking at Mail and a Google login to your account in Mail or are you looking at the Google Web mail page ?

My Mail App lists a Junk folder at Google but says it is empty whilst at the same time show me items in the Junk folder on the Mac from Google.

At Google web page login there is a Spam folder which contains the items listed on the Mac as Junk

I had to expand the More item in the menu.

You seem to be looking in the Google Web page version based on the word Spam.  (But of course you might have deleted this on the Mac as "junk" particularly if you have a Rule set up to do so).

Is the Gmail item linked to your Apple on the Apple ID pages ?
