2005 MacBook Pro screen malfunction?

That "impact" point on the bottom right of screen indicates that the computer was either dropped, or had something press up against the screen, such as a finger or something else.
This looks like accidental damage, not a hardware malfunction.
Thanks. Appreciate your response. Disappointing news if it's true, however. I used the computer yesterday-worked fine, then turned it on today. Wasn't dropped, hit or tampered with, just sat on table. Old age?
Could be caused by putting something like a book on top of the computer. Maybe a pet?
Old age is always a factor but this really looks like pressure damage. I work at a school with Chromebooks and MacBook Airs and I see this all the time from students opening the screens of their Chromebooks by the base of the screen.
You could try the SMC/NVRAM resets if you haven't already. They can help with issues related to power and the video cards. NVRAM is formerly known as PRAM on older devices, but the reset is the same.

Attach a monitor to the MBP. If the monitor duplicates the MBP image, the GPU is the prime suspect. If the Monitor presents a 'good' image, the display or the display connection is faulty.
Ciao.
