Q: After update 2.2, error: "The Apple Software Update server could not be found."

Apple Software Update just updated itself to version 2.2.  After allowing the Apple Software Update 2.2 to complete, I am receiving the error: "The Apple Software Update server could not be found.  Check your Internet settings and try again."  The tool is also reporting "New software is available from Apple".  I am running in a typical home network environment with a router over FIOS on Windows 10.  An anti-virus scan was clean.

Itunes on windows, Windows 10

I just uninstalled iTunes and related apps and did a fresh reinstall.  Again the Apple Software Update app suggested updating to version 2.2.  After successfully updating, the error appears again:"The Apple Software Update server could not be found.  Check your Internet settings and try again."

Same issue here. Happening on both out laptop and desktop. I had update the software previously when it first came out and it was working fine. So I am thinking to suddenly notice it today and for both machines to show this error it must an issue on apple side. It was definetely working OK earlier this week as I used to update to latest iTunes released Monday. I made sure to test it after the iTunes update and it was working ok in the aftermath. So it's a recent issue in last few days, maybe only today. Apple needs to pull its finger out

I have the same issue, 4 Macs, 3 running Bootcamp and 1 running Parallels 11 all with Windows 10 installed. Apple Software updated itself to version 2.2 and now I get the error pop up can't find server check Internet connection. Is there any way to revert back to previous version of Apple Software update or does anyone know what exactly is broken or misconfigured in Apple Software update version 2.2?

ON another post someone speculated an issue contacting AKMAI server. That's beyond my understanding but I'd say Apple server is to blame and issue manifests itself once new version is installed. Sloppy QA here. Hit Apple support in Twitter. That's what I did. The more people that force issue the more chance it has on registering on their radar. I suspect as it exists on Windows they will be in no hurry to fix it so we need to push it more. It's a pretty unacceptable glitch, how are people going to be made aware of future iTunes or other software updates without it working

I had the same problem with Apple Software Update 2.2. I got the error message: "The Apple Software Update server could not be found. Check your Internet settings and try again.".

I went to the Control panel -> Network and Internet -> Internet Options.

In the "Advanced" tab I scrolled down to "Security" and unchecked "Do not save encrypted pages to disk".

Now Apple Software Update 2.2 is working without problems.

Sorry to report that I'm also in the same boat. I'm running Win7 Home Premium and none of these suggestions have helped. The box that says "Don't save encrypted files to disc" isn't checked. So I don't know what else to do...

Thank you. This worked perfectly. I was very frustrated after having to run a microsoft fix-it tool to get rid of the older version of software update. It wouldn't let me install the new version of itunes until I did. After getting the May 16 version of itunes  installed I had the 2.2 update problem. I don't think i would have ever got it fixed if I hadn't found this thread.

This absolutely works!! I have been researching for hours, but did not want to try all the bazaar remedies I found. And some back story here that may help some folks:  I had two issues that this seems to have resolved - as they are related. First when I went to HELP / CHECK FOR UPDATES in iTunes, the results brought back notice that a newer version was available. So far so good, until I clicked on UPDATE NOW. Then - NOTHING HAPPENED. I researched to see if I could try another way, and finally found that I could use the Search charm on my PC (Windows 8.1), for "Apple Software Update". But when that brought up the update screen, it wouldn't even let me know one was available. It just gave this error message: "The Apple Software Update server could not be found. Check your Internet settings and try again." But here was the clincher for me - I also have a laptop with same OS & iTunes, that I WAS able to update with the same version of Apple Software Updater 2.2. So I assumed it was NOT an Apple issue as many have complained, since it worked fine on one device, but not the other. So I followed the advice given here by c0ret3x, but first compared those settings he mentioned in the Internet Options/Advanced/Security, and sure enough THAT ONE ITEM was indeed unchecked on that laptop that worked, and was CHECKED on the desktop where it was not working. So, unchecking that feature absolutely allowed iTunes Updating to work properly. THANK YOU, THANK YOU to "c0ret3x" .. !!
