Q: Upgrade to iPhoto '11

Is it safe to upgrade from iPhoto version 9.5.1 to iPhoto '11 version 9.4.3?

I have an iPhoto '11 iLife DVD family pack. I used it on my laptop years ago.

I am still running OS X Version 10.9.5 on my iMac.

4GB RAM, 2.7GHz CPU, 764GB Free out of a total of 999GB

iPhoto '11, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

That's a downgrade, not an upgrade. Unless you're going to be downgrading the OS, you don't need to do that.

    Thank you for your reply!

I was under the impression that iPhoto '11 is a newer version of iPhoto.

I can Burn Event Photos to a DVD from iPhoto '11 on my laptop.

However, the Burn option is not available on iPhoto on my iMac.

I use the Share menu option and click on 'Burn' to burn event photos to a DVD on my laptop

So, it seems like I should be using iPhoto '11 on my iMac

iPhoto can not go backwards - you can not open a 9.5.1 library with iPhoto 9.4.3 - you can use iPhoto Library Manager to downgrade the library or you can restore a backup of the 9.4.3 library (of course if you do you will lose any thing done since you did the upgrade to 9.5.1

But your post is very confusing since you state that you are using OS X 10.8.5 and iPhoto 9.5.1 came out for and with OS X 10.9.5 and you state that you want to upgrade when you are trying to downgrade and both 9.4.3 and 9.5.1 are iPhoto '11 - all version starting with 9.x are iPhoto '11 (versions starting with 8.x are iPhoto '09 and v..x are iPhoto '08)

What exactly do you have, what exactly do you what to accomplish and why?

iPhoto 9.5.1 is newer than any version which can be gotten from an iLife DVD.

My original post included this misleading phrase: "iPhoto '11, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)". Sorry

    I have iPhoto version 9.5.1,  OS X Version 10.9.5

I want to use the Burn command from the Share menu but burn is not available on this version of iPhoto.

I want to be able to Burn event photos to a DVD.

My original assumption was wrong. I thought Apple had released "iPhoto '11" as a new product to replace "iPhoto".

Thanks for clearing up the version information.

I want to be able to Burn event photos to a DVD.

    Simple:

Select the Photos in iPhoto. Export them to a folder on the desktop. Burn that with the Finder.

    Thank you Terence.
I will use this method to burn photos to DVD or external disk.
