Q: Can't add airprint printer

I'm trying to add a Ricoh printer, which has AirPrint ability. iMac 2013 model, latest El Capitan, going to the printer, I can see the Ricoh printer, selected it, it did not detect AirPrint under use. This is happening on one iMac, it works on three other imacs, mac mini, macbook pro, and air.

I tried print system reset, but I can't seem to add this particular printer on this specific iMac.

I was able to add two other different printers using AirPrint without problem on this specific iMac.

What else is there to try?

On this Mac, when you select to add, from the Default view is the Ricoh shown as Bonjour? Because if it is shown using some other protocol then this will not allow the use of the AirPrint driver.

    Hi gudel

First see if there are any update to the Ricoh printer drivers. Go to the manufactures page.

If not, try removing the printer from your System Preferences > Printers and Scanners; highlight the printer then click the "-" button.

    Then quit System Preferences.

Then open System Preferences again and add the Ricoh printer back in again. Click the "+" button and find the Ricoh printer.

This sometimes resets the Printer drivers and associated plist in the Mac and problems sometimes go away.

It is also possible you need to reset the wifi on the printer itself. Try deleting and resetting wifi setting on the printer.

    Hope this helps, Greg

Had similar issue when updated to El Capitan but with my Canon printer, lost wireless printing and on trying to re add after removal could not see see the AirPrint option. I re installed the Apple driver package for Canon (think it was v3.0 at the time but now is at v3.3) and dully rebooted which on re adding printer then gave me the option to select AirPrint - if you search Apple think Ricoh drivers are still at v3.0 which is labeled for Yosemite but under system requires it does indicate Yosemite or later.

I might be wrong but always understood AirPrint was an Apple thing and therefore enabled via Apple software, thats why I chose to reinstall the Apple printer driver for Canon - anyhow it worked so was happy. Also found this Apple article that may also help Get help resolving printer issues on your Mac - Apple Support

    Good luck, Si.

I got it to work, no need to get Ricoh driver from Apple, or from Ricoh. I know this since my other devices (multiple imacs, mini, two mbp, air) all work without doing so.

It seems that the next day it started working again, adding the printer from Bonjour makes it auto detect the airprint. It was not doing this before, it would just go blank. I tried this at the same time with the other imac to see if the printer not responding on the network, it was working fine on the other.

So I have no idea what changed, since I didn't change anything.
