Q: Airport Extreme Wifi Not Working, Wired Is Though

Hello,

I'm having an issue with my Airport Extreme. I'm able to connect to the internet through the router via a wired connection but the WiFi isn't working. I checked all the wifi enabled devices in my house and nothings able to connect. It wasn't even showing my network in available networks.

I unplugged the router to restart it, after which the wifi still wasn't working. I logged into the router using the Airport Utility to make sure all the settings were correct, which they were.

We didn't lose power or anything, nothing changed on the computer it's based off of. We reset our Comcast Modem just to be safe and its still not working.

I did however manage to get the network to pop up in the available networks for a little bit but it just asked for my wifi password over and over without actually connecting to it.

Any ideas here?

FYI: it is the previous generation, 5th maybe even 4th gen. I'm kind of thinking the wifi adapter in it is just fried, if that's even possible, but I'm hoping its something that can be fixed.

If the wireless radio is not working.......as would be the case if computers cannot even "see" the network in Available Networks.....then it is either defective or it has failed, and the only solution would be to replace the AirPort Extreme with another wireless router.

If the wireless network name does appear in the list of available networks, but devices cannot connect, then that would also point to a defective wireless radio on the AirPort Extreme.

As a last resort, you might consider performing a Hard Reset......to get the AirPort Extreme back to its original default network settings.....and then try setting up the AirPort Extreme again.....using a different wireless network name and password.

If devices still cannot connect to the wireless after the AirPort has been reset and reconfigured, then the AirPort Extreme needs to be replaced.

    Kind of what I figured.

I'll give the hard reset a try today.

Definitely will be getting a new Airport Extreme though; had that thing for years and never had a problem with it... until now, but it's old, so its understandable.
