Q: Sync old iPod (windows format) to my iMac.

Sync iPod (windows format) to my iMac - is it possible w/out loosing music? There is a sync button on bottom of my iTunes screen when iPod is connected to my iTunes in iMac. I can play my music when iPod is connected to my iMac through iTunes. Do I push it the sync button..? Scared to loose music. Help. The iPod's music was put on my iPod by a friend many years ago (+-10 years ago) on my friends PC. Is this possible to do without loosing my music?

iPod nano, Software Version 1.1.3

Typically when connecting an iPod to a iTunes library with which it has never previously been connected you will get a message asking if you want to erase the iPod and sync it with that library.  This is to prevent doing things such as transferring music from a friend's computer to an iPod then transferring it to yours.  I would think if you do not want things to change on that iPod you do not press the sync button.

So, if I press the sync button.. the music on my iPod may erase but will it be on my computer then? Or will it just disappear. And will I ever be able to put music back on that iPod ever again since it was linked to anothers iTunes library? Thanks.. I just don't get this stuff.

Legally, if that music belongs to your friend, you should not add it to your iTunes library.  If you set up the iPod to Sync Music with your iTunes library, the iPod's existing content is erased and replace with content from your current iTunes library.
