So, your finder icon on the dock is gone? Is the dock itself there?

Weird, what happens when you open a new finder window from the finder menu? Does a finder window appear?

I would just reinstall OS X. Not a big deal as none of your files, apps or settings will be changed. Before proceeding you should make sure that you have a current backup just in case something goes wrong. If you're using any anti virus software, cleaning software, tune up speed up or optimizing software get rid of it. Apps like MacKeeper and CleanMyMac come to mind.

Just on the off chance someone set hide finder. Go to the finder, top left and click on it. If this is so, you should see a show finder to click on.

Not sure that'd work. I thought of that too, and it just hides the finder window, not the actual icon.
