apple id

Why is it my macbook pro will not accept my apple id password since i accidentally completely deleted my whole computer and had to start over again with everything. It will accept it to log into this forum and on my iPhone but not on my computer?? It thinks for hours when I enter it (meaning the wheel will spin on forever). Any suggestions?
