Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. I understand you are having trouble signing into Family Sharing with your Apple ID and password. Are you the Organizer - the person who is responsible to pay for all of the purchases? Or, are you a family member trying to log in?
Take a look at the resource below for editing/updating your Apple ID. It's possible that the Apple ID (which is an email address) and password are OK, but the billing information for the account needs updating.
So, what I would suggest is that you go to the Apple ID website and sign in with your password. If you are able to sign in, then go to the billing section and update your billing information. Make sure the address matches what is on your bank statement. You will need to re-enter the security code and expiration date for your credit card. Be sure to click Done to confirm the changes. Once that is done, sign out of your iTunes account, then you should be able to sign back in.
macandlish, if you are still having issues signing into your account after trying the steps in the resources below, please reply back and we'll continue to delve into this with you.
Manage your Apple ID account information
Take care,

I understand you updated your operating system. What version of the OS X does your computer now show when you click on the Apple Menu > About this Mac? What version of iTunes are you using? Did you restart the computer after updating the software? Have you signed out of your iTunes Account on your Mac and tried to sign back in?
Best,
