Photos from two cameras do not sort properly by "oldest first."

Prior to going on holiday with my wife I precisely synchronized the date and time on our two cameras. Once I returned home I imported photos from both cameras into a common album in Photos. When I sort them by "keep oldest first" they do not sort strictly by the date/time that the photo was taken (as reflected in the "info" for the photos). Instead, the photos from one camera are shown sequentially followed by the photos from the second camera that were taken about the same time. This throws off the chronological order of the photos when viewed. Any suggestions?

Sounds like your software may be only measuring to the minute or not accounting for download time. (Testing other software apps is the only way I know to be certain whether every app also exhibits from the same problem.)

If you don't want to change computer imaging software, you and wife can test making some pictures that are never closer than two minutes of each other. If that works, you know a workaround.

My wife and I use four cameras between us. We have just conceded defeat and are in the process of switching from Aperture. We didn't seem to be having this problem, BUT

I like to look at the latest photos taken on each camera to check uploads are up to date. So have a "smart album" for each... I've just looked in them and found that "date" in the Photos metadata appears to be "date modified" rather than the date taken we can see in Get Info.

Photos really needs enhancement to allow access and use of more metadata.

Not that this will help you, but...

The default sort order in Photos is by time added to Photos, not by time the image was taken.

no

The only sort in Photos view (years/collections/moments) is photos date as recorded by the camera in the EXIF data (there is an issue with time zones being different on the camera and the computer)

In All Photos the only sort is date imported (date added )

In user and smart albums photos can be sorted by photo date ascending or descending or by title
