iPod Classic/Black/30GB has a sad face, etc.

My iPod Classic/Black/30GB has a white screen w/an image of a iPod w/a sad face & an exclamation point inside a triangle & www.apple.com/ipod.

When powered on there is a black screen w/the Apple logo in the background. Then a white screen appears w/an image of an iPod, displaying a sad face & a triangle w/an exclamation point inside and verbiage of www.apple.com/ipod. Also, it doesn't show on my computer when plugged in. How can this be corrected? I'd like to get back to my playlist.

Thanks.

Do a Reset (restart) of iPod

If this results in the same error screen, try to put the iPod into Disk Mode

Then, connect it to your computer running iTunes. If iTunes picks it up, it may prompt you to do a Restore. If you're OK with erasing your iPod, do the Restore.

If the iPod does not go into Disk Mode or the Restore fails, the most likely cause is a faulty hard drive.
