Using Siri while in Airplane Mode

For the first time today, I imported all of my music to my iPod Touch running iOS 9.2. Then I took it with me in the car, assuming that I could use Siri to pull up songs upon my command. However, I then found out...even with just listening to music that's on my iPod and does not require an internet connection, apparently Siri requires an internet connection? Yes, I know for most things, using Siri does require an internet connection...but just for pulling up songs that are on my iPod? There's no way to work around that or no solution to this problem?
