Q: Macbook battery not charging, green light on, new battery

I have a 2008 macbook 13' operating on OS X 10.6.8 and I just replaced the battery (the previous one said battery needed replacing and I could only charge with the magsafe attached). New battery (which is not apple) worked just fine when I got it. I calibrated it and everything. Then I didn't use the computer for 2 months and now when I plug it in and turn it on the green magsafe light comes on and stays green but the status bar says not charging and I remain at 0%. If I unplug the charger the computer shuts off immediately.

I've tried resetting the SMC several times. No change.

What could be my problem?
