How can I sequence photos in an Pad album? The photos are sequenced by file name (e.g., C 10, C,20, CN) within their folder (album) in Photoshop Elements on my Windows 10 PC, but the sequencing is disrupted upon import/synch to the iPad via iTunes.

Thanks for your note. The photos are from different sources and dates, and are all in JPEG format. They are all sequenced in the order that I want by name (C 10, C 20, C 30, etc.) in the Photoshop folder / album. That order is not maintained when moved to the iPad via iTunes synch. My sequencing is not by date or source, but rather by a narrative sequence. It seems that iTunes uses something other than my sequenced file name to arrang photos on the iPad. Is this true, and if so, what is a sequencing that I can control to make it work?

You are correct. iOS devices display pictures by “date created” which is not necessarily the same as “date taken”. You have no choice over this, that is the way iOS is designed for better or for worse but there is a workaround which I use but it is time consuming.

Basically all pictures start with a creation date based on the date the picture was taken however if the picture is saved under a different name or is copied, a new “date created” will be established in the metadata. Unfortunately in iOS you don't have the options available in OS X or Windows to sort pictures for display. To display the pictures in your iPad in the order you want to see them, try the following:

1. In your PC’s File Manager create a new folder under My Pictures and name it as you wish, lets say Vacation. That name will be the name that will show up in your iPad.

2. Delete the iPod Photo Cache folder (if there is one) under My Pictures (iPod is correct, not iPad). A new one gets created with every iTunes sync.

3. Copy, not move, the pictures you want into the Vacation folder one by one in the order you want them displayed in your iPad. By copying each picture in the right order, a new “date created” with be established in the metadata of the photos.

4) If you want to see the pictures in your PC in the new order, select View > Details and sort by “date created”. If “date created” is not shown in the header, right click on the header and tick “date created” in the drop down menu. Go back to "View" and select “Icons” and you will see the pictures in order.

5) Open iTunes and sync the Vacation folder to your iPad (make sure the folder you had synced previously is not also selected, that way it gets deleted).

The pictures will now show up in the order you want, essentially any order that you chose if you copy them in that order. This works on all iOS devices.

In the finder, select the folder with your sequenced files. Under View pulldown menu go to Show View Options.

You arrange by name (wahoo!) or seven other options. What a revelation.

I tried that solution of copying all my files in the proper sequence - 3 times, but it finally worked when I copied them to another hard drive. I got the folder onto one iPad in the proper sequence, but then the same copied files would not sequence properly on my iPad Pro. Until I found the folder view options solution.

Purchase Photo Transfer App. Then by whatever means you typically use, copy all your photos and videos (make sure you get full native resolution version) to your computer. Then delete them all off the phone...empty recently deleted to really get rid of them.

Then run Photo Transfer app on phone and use the web option (not the stand alone application you can run on your computer) where you go to your computer and use the web browser and connect to phone by putting in the IP address...app gives you the IP

Typical format:

http://10.1.5.145:8080

Then make sure album is set to All Photos

Then choose upload photos.

Then browse to your files, then choose custom files and choose all files. This gets pics and videos. Make sure they are sorted by file name or date or whatever you want (I used file name) then select about 300 of them and choose Open. The upload starts. It puts the pics and videos back in the cameral roll in exactly the order you selected them.

I have been struggling with this for days. This solution solves the prob so I thought I would share.

Make sure you don't use the standalone app on the PC or Mac...it does not let you select pics and videos in the same upload. The web connection does.
