I have an iphone 5s and on ios 9. i and i want to know how many contacts I have. For example like this
ive tried syncing from computer, icloud and unchecking groups

Go to Groups, and uncheck "All iCloud," then recheck "All iCloud"...worked for me.
i just tried it and it still doesn't work. can you show a screenshot?

You can also log into https://www.icloud.com and click on the contacts app
Scroll all the way to the end and you get the total number
i scrolled all the way to the bottom and don't see anything. hmm
I couldnt see mine either.
But I deleted a contact I didn't need anymore and the number of contacts popped up.
Maybe a coincedence?

unfortunately it didn't work. Btw do you have mutiple groups in your groups list?
No I don't only iCloud.
so instead of groups I have a reload button there and I hit that as well
