Optimize iPhone Storage ruined my phone?

So about when iOS 9 was released, I got a notification on my phone about optimizing storage. I fell for it by hitting optimize or whatever it was. Now I cant download those photos to my computer. I can't retrieve the 4gb of photos to my iPhone. I have 4+ gb available in my storage. Someone please help I've had to delete a lot of my apps!!

One option would be to download the photos directly to your computer from iCloud. You can use your computer and log in to https://www.icloud.com/ and go to the Photos app there and select the photos that you want to download.

Also, it isn't clear from you original post but have you gone to Settings > iCloud > Photos and turned on "Download and Keep Originals" after you made space available on your phone?

Hello mit1020,

There are a couple of ways you could get them back. First option, setup the iCloud Photo Library on your computer and have it download the originals. This can be done on a Mac runnig Yosemite or later, and even on a PC.

The second option, could be to download some of the images from iCloud Photos. The delete the from iCloud so there is not as much to download on the iPhone. Better yet, if you can free up additional space on your iPhone that may allow everything to download. I know the options for removing iPhone data can be limited though.

Big important disclaimer, don't delete images off the cloud until you know there is a copy of it elsewhere.
