It would seem that QuickTime for Windows is no longer being supported by Apple and presents a potential security risk. iTunes hasn't relied on QuickTime for several versions and in most cases you are unlikely to have content or visit websites where it is needed. Ideally you should uninstall QuickTime without delay if you have it installed. See Uninstall QuickTime 7 for Windows - Apple Support for removal advice.

See Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates if you have any problems uninstalling QuickTime or updating iTunes. Note that in some cases Apple Software Update may have stopped providing you the latest builds. At the time of posting the current builds of iTunes are 12.3.3.17 for Windows 7 or later and 12.1.3.6 for Windows XP & Vista. Download advice and direct links are given in the user tip.

You should have apple software update (some version) installed on your device. Launch it and it will detect the update.

As far as can find no separate update is readily visible, but it is included with products such as ITunes And Quicktime. If you uninstall and reinstall one of these you will be find windows update and some level (probably prior older than 2.2). Again run it and it will find the 2.2 update .

Note for me and several others 2.2 is broken. Which caused me to do the uninstall and reinstall I mentioned and to reject the offered upgrade from 2.1.4 to 2.2

thread is about software update 2.2. Since 2.2 was a security fix IT NEEDS TO BE FIXED.

As for quicktime for windows, they can say just uninstall it because they are not going to be doing further security updates, but if you have other software that depends on it, you have to wait for updates to that software to eliminate the requirement. Clearly you should consider removing the plugins for any web browser. They should comment about removing those.
