Older Devices

I have a question about older Mac's, not just Mac's older iOS Devices like iPad 2-3-4 :

For Mac:

Will Apple stop updating the software after OS X El Capitan?

For iPad & iPhone:

Will Apple stop updating the software update just like the oldest devices like: iPhone 3-4?

I'm so afraid of that! 😟

My Mac is:

Mac Book Air (11-inch Mid 2012)

Processor: 1,7 GHz Intel Core i5

Memory: 4GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB

Thanks for answering!

We do not know what Apple plans on doing. Going on past history in general you get about 4 years of system support for iOS devices and maybe 6 years for computers, though often software packages such as iTunes upgrades may work on computers 8-10 years old as long as they are running the latest system they can. That's just the way it is with computers. Of course you can do as I do which is keep computers well beyond the support lifetime buy then do not do things such as buying new iOS devices, or new printers, etc.

I'm sorry, but how old are you? You obviously don't understand the pace of new technology. Making ridiculous accusations isn't going to win you any sympathy. If you're not happy with it, go buy an Android device. Let us know how the whole 'update' thing works out for you.

Do you know how many Android devices are running the current version of their OS? About 2%. 2%

Learning or knowing something is not by age, I'm 15 Years old... iOS App Developer. And also I'm so happy with Apple who said I'am not? But i asked a simple question, i don't like Android to buy a device, I'am just afraid of Apple stopping software update for my Mac... only you have to tell me Apple will do that? or what? 😕

No, but you're not old enough to have experienced the true pace of change in technology. When I was 15 years old, Personal Computers did not exist except in embryonic form. The Apple I was the only product Apple sold. The IBM PC was still over half a decade away. My first computer was an Altair that I built from a kit with my dad.

Time and technology march on... very quickly. When the current hardware can no longer support the features people want, it will be sidelined, and eventually abandoned altogether.

Eventually, your Mac will be obsolete.
