I have tried using the hdmi - MacBook adapter but when plugged into my television monitor my MacBook screen blinks on and off. I have checked that all the plugs are securely plugged in. What to do?

Have you made sure to use the TV's HDMI port selector from the TV's own on screen menu?
Yes, good question – at first no, then I made that obvious adjustment and tried again. It looks like the TV is not registering the HDMI input even though its in the same slot the roku HDMI was in. The computer flips out and flickers as though its' looking for the right place to land the input from the cable.
