Q: I had over 2,000 photos on the application on my macbook, now I have gone down to 500 overnight?

I had previously deleted pictures off of my iPhone6 and they would still be on my computer, but now I only have the pictures that are on my phone. These are pictures that hold very dear memories and no one else has most of them. What do I do?

MacBook Air, iOS 9.3

If you have not manually emptIed it, all your deleted images should still be in the Recently Deleted album.

Please note that when you enable iCloud Photo Library on your computer and iDevices, every action (edit, delete, etc) on one device will be synced to all other devices and iCloud. If you are concerned about storage space on iDevices, set your Photos settings to keep your iCloud Photo Library to Optimized.

Your post is not clear - Are you using iCloud Photo Library? If you are then all changes made on any device (additions, deletions or edits) are made on all devices - the entire purpose of ICPL is to keep the libraries on multiple devices in sync with each other
