OS 10.11.4 broke all of my applications...

I just updated my Macbook Pro and my Mac Pro to OS 10.11.4. On my laptop, everything seems to be fine. On my Mac Pro, none of my applications

will open. I get an error that says "You can't open the application "Disk Utility" because it may be damaged or incomplete." I get the same message on all the applications I try to open. I am beyond p i s s e d. There is absolutely NO excuse for this kind of thing to be happening in this day and age. If anyone know WHY this d a m n update did this and what I can do to correct it, your input is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Mac Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.4), 24 GB, Radeon 4870, Blu-ray

Similar problem here. I updated to 10.11.4 and Safari is completely hosed, uses 99% of cpu, so I closed it and went to Chrome. Something is badly wrong with this update.

I found the old installer and erased it and also the updater that I had used. I then was able to download the El Capitan installer from the app store. It was version 10.11.4, the latest.

I then erased the drive since I had a Carbon Copy clone on a back up drive. I installed 10.11.4 and then used Migration Assistant to move my files from the clone. I found I had failed to turn Time Machine back on so I could only use the clone.

It worked like a charm.

Very Disappointed to announce that while OS 10.11.1 - 3 Updated with no problems for me The latest Update 10.11.4 Messed up My Bluetooth and PhotoBooth App as well.

Cannot connect to MegaBoom Speaker at all so Had to Reset All Bluetooth Devices by Holding Down SHIFT/OPTION while selecting Bluetooth Menu and "Reset The Bluetooth Module" Under the Debug Menu... well that Didn't work so I had to RESET the SMC Controller ...

This is how to reset SMC on most modern Mac laptops, none of which have a removable battery:

  1. Shutdown your MacBook Air / MacBook Pro
  2. Connect the power adapter to the Mac
  3. On the MacBook / Pro’s keyboard, hold down the Shift+Control+Option keys and the Power button at the same time
  4. Release all keys and the power button at the same time – the little light on the MagSafe adapter may change colors briefly to indicate the SMC has reset
  5. Boot your Mac as usual

Well That Fixed the Photo booth App from saying "No Connected Camera"

But BlueTooth still requires 2 or 3 attempts to get MegaBoom Speaker to Pair... but If I restart at all it takes another 10 minutes of fiddleing around again to get my Macbook Pro to see anything Bluetooth again... I also reset the PRam which doesn't do anything but I wanted to try everything before Downloading

El Capitan and ReINstalling my OS from scratch... that is going on now so I'll see if that helps...

Thanks alot Apple... Too much Lipstick Politics going on I fear... I'll be up all night after the NCAA games trying to get back to normal.... otherwise My Easter Sunday will be Spent restoring from a Time Machine Backup to 10.11.3 dammit!

Sincerely not MacAwesome,

Robert

Hello:

The link takes me directly to the App Store App. There I can click the menu Download. I then get the following message:

"OS X v10.11.4 is already installed on this computer. Use the Updates page to install the 10.11 update or if you would like to download the full OS X installer click Continue."

If I click continue (to download the full installer) nothing happens.

Thank you.

OK, I read your reply once again and found out why the installer did not download - you said that you erased the old installer). This was because i had the older installer from last year on my disk. I moved it to the trash and now the full installer of 10.11.4 is downliding (still remains to be seen when the download ends).

Thank you

Shuka

Dave et al:

first let me thank you again for your patience and will to help. I found out why your suggestions did not work for me. Here is a reply i wrote to Russell Vaught which explains why i was not able to download the full installer:

The 10.11.4 update also deleted my apps and my macbook pro 2012 is now totally unusable.

I tried the update using the App Store and found all my apps were deleted.

Restored from a Time Machine back to 10.11.3 and downloaded the 10.11.4 combo updater and the same thing happened.

I am now doing a clean install and migrating everything from my time machine.

Thanks Apple for stealing a day from my long weekend.

Dear chriskan0305:

Thank you so much for your message. It saved my day (actually y week). I am now up and running. I was not able to delete the directory because of the permissions and my limited unix knowledge. However, I managed to delete the folder using the Finder.

I got a call from Apple today asking about my problem (no applications, etc.) and if I was able to resolve it and I told them that I did thanks to you and I was asked to send them your insert which I just did.

Again thank you and all you great people out there.

Shuka

Dear Shuka,

Not at all. I am glad that I can help people who encounter the same issue. I did actually wasted a few hours (thanks to Apple!) at work trying to figure out what happened and fix this (cos it happened on my work MacBook Pro). Corporate IT folks do not know how to provide OS X support most of the time so I had to do it myself.

rgds,

Chris
