Extra disk space after 10.11.4 update

Hi,

I updated to 10.11.4 last night and when I woke up this morning my laptop (Macbook Pro, MacBookPro11,5, 500 GB HD) had suddenly 120 GB of extra free space (from around 50 GB to 170 GB). I've run Disk Utility and it finds no errors in the drive (I've also rebooted in Safe Mode, and booted into the Recovery partition to check, also no errors). I've checked the Console and searched for 'deleted' and it comes up with very little. I've tried to open up many applications and hunt around for data but all appears fine.

If I hadn't noticed the extra free space I'd have never noticed anything was different. That said, I am very confused where 120 GB of space suddenly came from and what is missing.

I am the only user and nobody (as far as I know) knows my password.

Any ideas how I can track down what happened?

Thanks

What are you using as a source of this information? If it is the display from "About this Mac", it should be treated with suspicion. Run a Spotlight reindex and see if that makes a correction. (it may not)

It may help to determine the accuracy of what you have on the MBP if you download from the Internet OmniDiskSweeper and Grand Perspective (both free) and open them. They will show all of your files and the respective sizes.

Ciao.
