Q: my superdrive does not read any type of disc once i insert it into the drive

Greetings all

My iMac late 2011 edition does not read any type of disc if i insert it into the drive. It automatically rejects the disk after a a wile and then pushes the disk out. It does not allow me to even read the disk. What could be the problem?

Thanks

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

The drive might be malfunctioning but it could be nothing more than a dirty lens. Lens cleaners are inexpensive and it is worth giving it a shot.

I have this problem too but its not a dirty lens. All disks inserted read BLANK DISK regardless of what is on it. This happened in the past 30 days so most likely an update. Anyone else experiencing this?

How do you know it's not a dirty lens or dirt in the drive?

Could try purchasing and using a commercial retail dry brush CD/DVD laser lens cleaning system disc. These lens cleaning disc can revive a malfunctioning or failing optical drive.

Also, could try powering down and unplugging your iMac and take a credit card completely covered in a microfibre cloth and stick it into the CD slot and then pull it out and see if any dirt comes out and onto the cloth.

Wipe the loose dirt off of the cloth and reinsert the cloth into the CD/DVD slot, again, clearing the dust and dirt off of the microfibre cloth each time before reinserting the cloth/credit card until no more dust/dirt/lint comes out of the CD/DVD slot and no more dust/dirt/lint appears on the microfibre cloth.

I used twice a commercial cleaner. I will, however, try your method of the cloth and get back to you. Thannks
